Dr. Joy Trueblood is a highly experienced pathologist with board certification from the American Board of Pathology and additional certification in cytopathology. She has an extensive professional background in the field and a special interest in breast, gynecologic, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal surgical pathology, as well as cytopathology.
From November 2007 to December 2019, Dr. Trueblood served as the Medical Director of the Department of Pathology at The Iowa Clinic, PC in West Des Moines, IA, where she managed a team of five full-time technologists and oversaw the administrative operations of the anatomic pathology lab. She also interpreted histologic and cytologic preparations, as well as in-house fine needle aspiration biopsy specimens. Her strong communication skills allowed her to collaborate effectively with medical providers within and outside The Iowa Clinic, PC to provide diagnoses and consultative reports.
Prior to her time at The Iowa Clinic, PC, Dr. Trueblood held several positions at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, including Medical Director of the Cytology Laboratory and Mercy School of Cytotechnology. She was also an Adjunct Professor of Pathology courses at Des Moines University and Vice Chairman and Acting Chief of the Department of Pathology at Mercy One Medical Center.
Dr. Trueblood regularly participated in annual testing for cytology competency and met biennial state medical license renewal requirements for continuing medical education (CME). She attended various in-person CME-accredited activities sponsored through the College of American Pathologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists, as well as ASCP-sponsored CME activities in surgical and cytopathology.
